CBL Championship Game at Cary

CBL Championship Game Friday Night In Cary!

June 21, 2011:  Several late season factors resulted in a decision by CBL officials to return to the single playoff/championship game format that was used in the 2010 season to crown the Savannah Wildcats as champions.  This year, that game will be played at 7 pm on Friday, June 24th at the Young Center in downtown Cary, North Carolina between the Cary Invasion, the league's North Division champion with a league-leading 11-1 record, and the CBL South Division representative, the Florida Flight.

"We have learned through a half-dozen seasons in minor league basketball that playoff venue scheduling can be challenging and that teams are under the most financial pressure at the end of the season.  For those reasons, we have been proponents of single game playoffs or regular season records determining league champions.   Both approaches put more emphasis on regular season games, which we believe are good for the business.   We respect the league's decision and look forward to an exciting championship game in Cary later this week," says Mark Janas, Owner and General Manager of the Cary Invasion.

All tickets sold to date in Cary for what was once a divisional playoff game will be honored for the championship game on the same day and time.

CARY UNBEATEN STREAK CONTINUES

June 17, 2011: In front of an energized crowd at the J.D. Fuller Center in Fayetteville on Friday night, the Cary Invasion (11 - 0) escaped with a win over the Fayetteville Crossover by a score of 123 - 115.   The game was tight most of the way, with Fayetteville making a run and taking a lead in the fourth quarter.  But, consistent with the season's script, the Invasion played offense and defense down the stretch to seal the victory.

"It was a great road win in a very tough environment.  We have played close games with them all year.  They are a good team, and their hospitality is second to none," " says Invasion Head Coach, MarQus Johnson. "We'll have to play even better to meet the challenges ahead, including our game against Wilmington on Sunday and our first round play off game next Friday in Cary."

Former Mountain State guard Paul Wright and former St. Augustine's College star Charles Ward each had 22 points in the win for the Invasion.  Crossover guard Jarrick Jones led all scorers with 25 points. Cary plays next again at Wilmington on Sunday, June 19th at 7 pm for the team's regular season finale.
